Here In This Place

Ever had that feeling when you’ve been on holiday, and you’re having a great time, but there’s someone back home you’d much rather be with?

Here In This Place, now that I think about it, is a fairly old project of mine. In late December 2021 I was at my aunty’s house, in a Gippsland town called Metung, playing my guitar when I came across a couple of notes that would eventually form this song.

I had been enjoying my time away from home, as it had been our first opportunity to get off the Peninsula post-lockdown, but for the whole time we were down there, I couldn’t stop thinking about my then-’love interest’, whom I missed dearly.

At the time I was still writing songs for Resignation From The Human Race, so when I wrote Here In This Place it was actually intended to be on the album.

However, not long after I returned from Metung I came up with the ‘legendary’ Would You Be Mine?, also about the same person, which I found myself writing much faster. As a result of this, Here In This Place was shelved and the album released without it ever having even been recorded.

It wouldn’t be until around June 2022 that I would revisit the song, while I was struggling to come up with new songs for a potential second album.

Although the song now had a different personal meaning, I decided to work on finally finishing it - which retrospectively wasn’t that hard given that it was only intended to be a short, simple song anyway.

Having now completed Here In This Place, I recorded it the following month, however a combination of several school, family and personal events, and subsequenly limited production time meant I could only release it at the beginning of December.

I hope you enjoy it nonetheless; it’s an old favourite and I was glad at the time that it had finally come out. Not to mention it’s been known to impress the ladies (and for once I’m actually not joking :D)
